Arizona receives $6 million in consumer fraud settlement at Mercedes-Benz | So Good News

PHOENIX – Arizona has received nearly $6 million in a consumer fraud settlement with Mercedes-Benz and Robert Bosch LLC, officials announced Friday.
Mercedes-Benz and Bosch were charged with endorsing and marketing BlueTEC vehicles as “the most conservative diesel fuel system in the world,” according to a press release from the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.
Mercedes-Benz cars were modified and fitted with defeat devices, which caused them to emit less pollution in tests than they normally do.
Bosch is said to have designed, manufactured, marketed, tested and sold electronic devices that allowed Mercedes to control the air conditioning.
Mercedes will pay $2,835,000 in restitution and $2,715,000 in penalties.
Bosch will also pay $525,000 in penalties.
Arizona consumers eligible for reimbursement can receive up to $625 for the affected vehicle.

- Mercedes-Benz or Freightliner Sprinter 6-cylinder (2010-2016)
Eligible owners as of September 14, 2020, have been identified and contacted.
