Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday reviewed ongoing railway projects and traffic infrastructure works in Odisha. The Union Minister reviewed the projects with the General Manager and other department heads of East Coast Railway at the ECoR headquarters at Rail Sadan, Chandrasekharpur in Bhubaneswar.

Vaishnaw advised railway officials to speed up the construction work so that the ongoing works are completed at the earliest. He also advised officials to stay in constant touch and coordinate with all agencies and government officials to ensure completion of the projects at the earliest. The Railway Minister participated in the ‘Odisha Nirman Conclave-2022’ and spoke at length about the transformation in the railways with the help of multiple visions, new innovation, early completion of projects and improved port connectivity, among others.

Speaking to media personnel, Vaishnaw said before 2014 that Odisha would get only Rs 830 million in budget allocation. However, he said this year, Odisha got around Rs 10,000 crore in budget allocation, much more than expected. He also informed that only 20 to 25 km of railway line was developed in the state before BJP came to power at the Center in 2014. However, last year around 180 km of railway line was completed in the state and another 550 km. will be developed this year, said the minister.

Vaishnaw further informed that 28 railway stations are planned to be redeveloped, adding that the tendering process has been completed and the work is already underway. He said that Odisha will also soon get a ‘Vande Bharat Express’.

Vaishnaw added that the railways is also planning to run a ‘Jagannath Circuit’ train before the Rath Yatra to showcase the great culture, heritage and history of Lord Jagannath and Odisha. (ANI)
