New Delhi: The Ministry of Electronics and IT on Monday gave approval for Greenfield Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) at Ranjangaon Phase III in Maharashtra. ₹492.85 crores.
“We have EMCs in Noida, Tirupati, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu where multinational companies and Indian start-ups have set up their units. The Government of India is a supportive partner in these EMCs and we are working with state governments to facilitate these EMCs for electronics manufacturing in the state,” said Union Minister for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
Ranjangaon The minister added that EMC will support investments in Pune at the rate of over Rs. 2,000 crore in the near future and create employment for more than 5,000 people.
“Ministry of Electronics and IT is planning to promote 1000 Crore Semicon India Future Design program to support Semiconductor Design Startups in the state and will soon visit Maharashtra for piloting. C-DAC, Pune will be the nodal office for this purpose,” said Chandrasekhar.
Approval for EMC has been given to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and the state industrial agency of the state government. “Prime Minister Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis are committed to the development of the country’s electronics sector. Both have actively followed up with the EMC center at Ranjangaon in Pune,” the minister said.
“In 2014, 92 percent of all mobile phones used by Indian consumers were imported, but now 97 percent of all mobile phones used by Indian consumers are manufactured domestically. We had zero shipments in the electronics manufacturing space in 2014. At present, equipment worth Rs 70,000 crore has been shipped,” said Chandrasekhar.
Citing the example of EMC in Tirupati, the foundation laid by the Prime Minister in 2015, which now boasts of India’s first lithium cell manufacturing facility, the minister said EMCs are key elements for electronics. The manufacturing and design ecosystem will develop over the coming years, with India aiming to reach $300 billion in electronics manufacturing by 2025-26.
