MONTREAL, September 15, 2022 – As of early this morning, CN along with the other Class 1 US freight railroads reached a tentative agreement with the remaining 3 unions representing railroad workers in the United States. These preliminary agreements now go to the trade union for ratification. During this time, the workers have agreed not to strike.
This means that CN will continue full operations and embargoes for rail safety sensitive materials (RSSM goods such as PIH/TIH) and all-time sensitive dangerous goods will be cancelled. We will move forward to conduct operations in a manner that protects the fluidity of the network.
We are pleased with this outcome, not only for our teams in the US and our industry, but also for our customers and the economy, as we have certainly avoided major disruption. Our thanks to all unions involved in the negotiations and to the Biden administration, including Labor Secretary Marty Walsh, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and the members and staff of the National Mediation Board.
