Governor Wolf’s administration has long celebrated job creation and manufacturing investment.
Tunkhannock, PA – Today, The unwavering commitment of Gov. Tom Wolf and his administration was underscored by Department of International Economic Development (DCED) Assistant Secretary David Briel during a visit to two homegrown companies in northeastern Pennsylvania. Briel in 2022; We visited manufacturers in Wyoming and Luzerne counties on the last day of Manufacturing Week in Pennsylvania, which the governor has announced for October 7-14.
According to the Governor’s Action Team (GAT) annual report for 2021-2022, the Wolf Administration has pledged to create 223 manufacturing jobs in Northeast Pennsylvania. This translates to 48% of jobs created by GAT in this region. During the Wolf Administration, $37.6 million has been invested to commit to creating 4,293 manufacturing jobs in the region through GAT.
“Pennsylvania manufacturers provide goods and services to customers throughout the Commonwealth, the nation and the world,” Briel said. “Celebrating Manufacturing Week in Pennsylvania is a celebration of how the commonwealth effectively tackles all corners of the world.”
Briel visited the following manufacturers:
- Deer Park Lumber Wyoming County; Tunkhannock is a family-owned hardwood sawmill with local and international customers. The company received a $3.1 million funding offer from GAT by 2021 to expand and modernize their existing facilities. Deer Park Lumber has committed to investing at least $10 million in the project, creating and maintaining a total of 82 jobs.
- PowerRail Exeter, Luzerne County, is a manufacturer and global distributor of locomotive parts for the railroad industry. In 2022, the company received a $2.7 million funding offer from GAT to purchase a new 200,000-square-foot facility and consolidate aspects of their business from other locations into the new headquarters. PowerRail has committed to investing at least $5.4 million in the project, creating and maintaining a total of 111 jobs.
During Manufacturing Week, DCED Pennsylvania senior officials tour manufacturers and highlight the industry’s important impact on the Commonwealth’s communities and economy. The tours include stops in the following districts:
Governor Wolf’s Administration: Long Job Creation Legacy Includes:
- Since 2015, 194,000 jobs have been created and retained through GAT.
- 430 projects with a total of $17.8 billion in private investment to support communities across the Commonwealth;
- A record $17.8 billion in private investment, with state investment of $396.3 million to support new and growing businesses. $476.15 million in new local taxes and $417.62 million in new state taxes.
- Every $1 invested in GAT projects generates $102 in private support for Pennsylvania’s communities and economy, a $75 higher public-to-private ratio than during the Corbett administration.
- Over 67 percent of the jobs created through GAT over the past eight years have been in manufacturing (more than 84 percent of job creation in 2021 alone will be in manufacturing).
