First Solar Inc. Alabama, It plans to establish a photovoltaic solar module manufacturing facility at the Mallard Fox West Industrial Complex in Lawrence County. The $1.8 billion project is expected to create 700 jobs.
The new, fully vertically integrated facility will join three facilities in Ohio and is part of the company’s previously announced investment to expand its U.S. manufacturing footprint to more than 10 gigawatts by 2025.
“Along with its sister plants in Ohio, this facility is part of the industrial foundation that is helping to power this transition with American innovation and ingenuity,” said Mark Widmar, CEO of First Solar.
The plant is scheduled to start operations in 2025 with an annual capacity of 3.5 GW.
