A NUMBER of roads on the Isle of Wight are flooded today (Sunday) as rain lashes down.

Island Line trains are also off, due to heavy rain flooding the railway between Ryde Esplanade and Shanklin.

South Western Railway said: “All lines are blocked. Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 3pm.

“We have been advised that the line between Ryde Esplanade and Shanklin is currently flooded. This means that trains cannot run between these stations.

“We apologize for any delay this may cause to your travel.”

Roads flooded include:

  • Avenue Road in Sandown at both ends. The Morton Bridge end is closed to traffic.

  • The road from Ventnor to Whitwell, especially around the bend to St Lawrence.

  • The area around Smallbrook Junction.

  • The underpass at Sandown railway station

  • Road near Sandown and Shanklin Golf Club
