Governor Tom Wolf announced $200,000 in new funding for the Bedford County Technical Center (BCTC) through Pennsylvania’s Manufacturing PA Training-to-Career Program (MTTC) to create awareness for students about rewarding local careers in the manufacturing industry.

“Both students and local manufacturers will benefit from this wonderful awareness campaign,” said Governor Wolf. “It will begin to build a pipeline of talent for local manufacturers and show students and their parents the many exciting and rewarding opportunities available in the manufacturing industry.”

BCTC plans to use the funding for two separate but complimentary segments: implementing a “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing” video contest and a parallel community campaign to reinforce the contest message and promote opportunities to youth and other underserved people in the manufacturing sector in the region.

The “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing” video contest will be implemented in ten central Pennsylvania schools representing more than 10,000 students each year, including six in Bedford County in one program and Blair, in two years. Four additional sites in Fulton and Huntingdon counties will be implemented.

The community-facing campaign will promote high-tech career opportunities within local manufacturing companies and will run parallel to “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing.” Video competition. The campaign is aimed at youth, It aims to expand the effort’s reach into communities with a focus on recent high school graduates and the underprivileged. The evolution of manufacturing has created unique high-tech career opportunities available at local companies. BCTC plans to highlight these companies and careers, along with the training path available to young workers.

“We are excited about the opportunities that manufacturing training grants will provide to students, educators and employers in Bedford County,” said Michael O’Dellick, administrative director of the Bedford County Technology Center. “The grant will serve a dual purpose in focusing the district on student engagement in local manufacturing and community outreach.”

Bedford County Technical Center is a part-time vocational and technical school serving the Bedford and Everett school districts. Tussey Mountain, Northern Bedford, Three other districts, including Chestnut Ridge and Hope for Hyndman, a charter school, send students to pay tuition.

Governor Wolf’s Manufacturing PA initiative launched in October 2017 and since then has funded 85 projects and invested more than $17.8 million through the MTTC program.
