Indian Railways announced 256 special trains on Diwali and Chhath Puja from various stations of Maharashtra Central Railway to other parts of the country, CPRO, Central railways said as quoted by news agency ANI.
The central railways have also increased the ticket price to handle the crowd at railway stations in the state.
“To manage the audience platform, the ticket price increased to ₹50 at CSMT, Dadar, Kalyan, Panvel stations and to ₹30 in Pune,” CPRO, Central railways told ANI.
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the central government has started over 250 special trains for the Chhath Puja festival.
“For Chhath Puja, we have started over 250 trains. Around 1.4 lakh berths have been made available and we will do the needful for the people,” said Ashwini Viashnaw, ANI reported.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar appealed to the Center earlier on Tuesday to provide special Chhath Puja trains for people who want to go to their native places for the festival.
Especially to handle the extra rush of passengers during the ongoing festive season, Indian Railways is running 2561 trips by 211 special trains (in pairs) for Chhath Puja this year.
Earlier this month, the Ministry of Railways released an official statement saying that Indian Railways will run an additional 32 special services to ensure smooth and comfortable travel for passengers this festive season.
Special trains are planned to connect major destinations across the country on railway routes, such as Darbhanga, Azamgarh, Saharsa, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Firozpur, Patna, Katihar and Amritsar etc.
This year, the Chhath Puja celebrations have started from today, October 28, while the last day of Puja is October 31, Monday. People observe the Chhath festival and follow strict rituals every day. According to Drik Panchang, sunrise on Chhath Puja will be at 6:43 AM and sunset at 6:03 PM. Shashthi-tihi begins at 05.49 on 30 October and ends at 03:27 31 October.
