TAGAYTAY CITY—National Master Eric Labog Jr. used the black pieces to create a 3-way tie for fifth place in Round 6 of the Asian Junior and Girls’ Knights Chess Championship with compatriot International Master Daniel Quizon. Templar Hotel in Tagaytay City on Tuesday.

This strengthened his International Masters standards to enter the final three rounds of the Children’s Section.
Labog, 19, a freshman at Immaculada Concepcion College, raised his overall score to 4.0, the same score as Fide Master Danial Sapenov of Kazakhstan and Fide Master Arman Hakemi of Iran.

Labog will face Kyrgyz Fide Master FM Eldiar Orozbaev in the next round.

India’s Chatterjee Utsab beat Indonesia’s Dzithauli Ramadan to move 1-4 with 4.5 points, followed by top-ranked Indian Saha Nilash, Indian International Harshavardhan GB and Mongolian International Sheker Gan-Erdene. .

In other results, Nilash tied with Gan-Erdene, while Harshavardhan shared a point with GB Sapenov.

In the women’s competition, Iran’s Woman Fide Master Mitra Asgarzadeh defeated Vietnam’s Ngoc Thuy Duong Bach and took the individual lead.
The win allowed Asgharzadeh to take the personal lead with 5.0 points after Tuesday’s scrimmage.

Asgarzadeh is now half a point ahead of Bach, Indian woman Rakshitta Ravi and India’s Femil Chelladurai, who beat Mary Joy Tan of the Philippines and top female international master Assel Serikbai of Kazakhstan.

32 boys from 11 countries will compete among juniors, while among girls, 20 players will participate in the tournament, which consists of 9 rounds according to the Swiss system.
