Manufacturing delays push Sterling Public Schools project back a year – Shaw Local | So Good News

STERLING – A facilities improvement project planned for this summer will be pushed back by a year. The Sterling Public Schools Board made the announcement Wednesday at its regular meeting.

Supervisor Tad Everett briefed board members on the news that came out of the Finance-Transportation-Assistance Committee meeting yesterday.

heating system The second phase of the three-year project will be delayed by a year due to a 42-week delay in deliveries by the outstanding manufacturer required to install the ventilation and air-conditioning units.

The arrival of those units will delay the completion of the Lincoln Elementary portion of the project.

At Lincoln, Room 19 – known as the “Old Library” – will be converted into offices with the goal of creating safe spaces for counseling and student intervention.

Rework at Lincoln will depend on some demolition work removing existing heating vents and systems.

“It can’t be done from there.” It’s all connected, so there’s no exterior work,” Everett said.

Simultaneously with the installation, The district will purchase a portable classroom for Lincoln through the Purchase Coop. Mobilease Modular Space quoted a price of $410,000, which was less than the original budget for the project.

A similar type of univents will be installed at the high school. But because no demolition is associated with that part of the project, work won’t start until Aug. 1, 2023, but it can go ahead.

Installing the univents takes about two days for each classroom. Once school starts, Principal Jason Austin and Director of Facilities and Grounds Brian Musselman said there are plans to move affected classrooms to other locations to allow the installation process to continue.

At Wednesday’s meeting, the board approved a $50,000 grant for a school maintenance project. It’s a matching grant that will be used to replace the lighting as part of Lincoln’s renovation project.
