ICYMI: Administration Whitmer announced October 2-8 as Manufacturing Week in Michigan.

LANSING, Mich – Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has designated October 2-8 as Michigan Manufacturing Week – to celebrate the achievements and contributions of the state’s manufacturing industry, which accounts for nearly 586,000 jobs and about $100 billion in annual gross output. Announcements for 2022 have been made.

“Manufacturing is part of Michigan’s DNA. It’s helped us put the world on wheels, assemble the arsenals of democracy and build the middle class, and it’s one of the main reasons we continue to play a key leadership role in the global economy,” he said. Michigan has long served as a national leader in manufacturing job creation, and those jobs have a significant impact on the state’s economy. Michigan created nearly 121,000 new manufacturing jobs between 2009 and 2021, a 26.0% increase, so it remains the nation’s leader in manufacturing job creation, outpacing all other states.

Michigan’s resilient manufacturing industry has rebounded since the first month of the pandemic, regaining 96.6% of lost jobs — a total of 207,100 manufacturing jobs since March 2020, according to data from the BLS.
