A follow-up to Quest 2, Meta is launching another consumer-style title next year.
The company made the announcement on today’s Q3 earnings call, where the company also posted a $3 billion quarterly loss on its non-volatile businesses. But CFO David Wehner says some of that ongoing revenue can be explained through Meta’s continued investment in new hardware development, including another consumer headset that’s coming out next year.
A few weeks ago, Meta unveiled the Quest Pro, a $1,499 headset aimed at power users, especially those who will use it. But existing headphones like the Quest 2 are aimed at immersing ordinary people in the company’s dream of complexity. Currently, the Quest 2 costs $399, but this summer, Meta raised the price by $100 to try to recoup the lost revenue.
We don’t know much about the new Meta title, except that… it’s in the works! But on the Quest Pro front, which was originally called “Project Cambria,” Meta dropped a lot of crumbs to reveal some powerful headphones, so it’s only a matter of time before we learn more.
“There is still a long way to go before we build the next computer.” But we are doing the leading work here. It’s a big job and it usually takes several versions of anything before it’s popular,” Zuckerberg said when calling for today’s investment. “But I think our work here will be very important and create the foundation for a new way in which we’ll connect with each other and integrate technology into people’s lives. ours, and the long-term foundation of our business. .”
