NHIDCL signs MoU with NIT Silchar for innovation in highway construction | So Good News

NEW DELHI : The National Institute of Technology, Silchar, (NIT Silchar) and the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) have signed an MoU to enhance cooperation in the field of highways and other infrastructure works, the Ministry of Road Transport and Transport has announced. “National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), a CPSE under the Ministry of Roads and Highways, signed an MoU with NIT, Silchar on October 26, 2022 to explore and promote innovative technologies. construction of highways that face extreme climatic conditions,” the report said.

The MoU was signed by Professor Sivaji Bandyopadhyay, Director of NIT Silchar and Chanchal Kumar, Managing Director of NHIDCL.

Both NHIDCL and NIT Silchar are leading national organizations in their respective fields and have come to work as a team to achieve the national goals accomplished to the best of their abilities and with utmost cooperation. According to a press release, both organizations will use their respective expertise to work on road infrastructure and highway engineering projects.

NHIDCL has signed agreements with several IITs and other institutions to promote innovation in highway construction. It has signed MoUs with CSIR-CRRI, IIT Roorkee, IIT Kanpur, IIT Patna, NIT Srinagar, NIT Agartala and NSDC for the current year 2022-23.

Earlier, highways, tunnels etc. with IIT Bombay and IIT Guwahati. MoUs were signed to exchange knowledge on innovative ideas and technologies in the field of highway engineering to improve the skills and capabilities of NHIDCL’s key engineering professionals who work tirelessly on construction projects. Infrastructure in very difficult geographical areas of NE region, UT of Ladakh, UT of J&K and UT of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said.

NHIDCL has also initiated discussions with other IITS, NITS to sign MoUs. This will help NHIDCL to introduce innovative technologies and find a pragmatic solution to complex road construction issues in hilly and border areas, the ministry added.
