Indian Railway Institute of Disaster Management (IRIDM) conducted a real-time exercise at Hejjala near Bengaluru on 24 November.

The exercise was part of the 5-day advanced disaster management training for officers and employees of the Indian Railways, which was organized from November 21 to 25.

The exercise was organized in collaboration with South Western Railway, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) fire service and civil defence.

This first of its kind advanced training on such a large scale was organized by drawing officers and supervising officers from across the Indian Railways.

The exercise involved simulating a situation with more than 100 injured, using around 6 condemned trainers and also a fire situation to create understanding of synergies expected in disaster management among key players such as Accident Relief Train (ART) supervisors, safety advisors, ART staff and Crane Drivers.
