Students from schools in the city won medals at the National Chess Tournament organized by the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) in Amritsar from October 28-30.

More than 320 students from CISCE schools across India participated in the event across six categories. The categories were boys and girls under 14 years old (U14), under 17 years old (U17), under 19 years old (U19). Eight rounds of the game were played and the Maharashtra team won gold in U14 girls, bronze in U17 girls, silver in U17 boys and U19 boys.

Dipansh Chopra of Bishop’s School (Camp) and Ajinkya Joshi of Bishop’s School (Kalyaninagar) won silver medals in the under-19 boys category.

Aarya Kadam of Vidya Valley School (Sus) and Grisha Kataria of Bishop’s School (Kalyaninagar) won the gold in girls under-14 category. Manjiri Choudhary of Podar School (Pimpri) and Ishani Bharsakade of Bishop’s School (Undri) shared the bronze in the under-17 girls category.
