Kollam: A railway employee died after being hit by a MEMU train on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as railway keyman Sunil Kumar (51), a native of Chavara.
The incident took place around 9.20 am at the railway gate near the Kandachira – Chathinamkulam road. Reportedly, Sunil Kumar was tightening the bolts of the railway track when the mishap occurred.
Sunil Kumar failed to notice the train due to the sound of another train passing through a nearby track.
The locomotive pilot of MEMU did not report the accident. Then a guard from Chennai Mail, passing by at 9.40 am, informed the matter at Kollam railway station.
“As there is no system to inform key men about train timings, such accidental deaths are becoming common,” said staff.
