Rajasthan Government will start ‘Chess in Schools’ on the third Saturday of every month from Indira Gandhi Jayanti on November 19.
Chess in schools is played by more than 60,000 school students as a sports and recreational activity during ‘No Other Day’ on the third Saturday of every month, Education Minister BD Kalla told SNS on Monday.
Dr. Kalla, who also heads the departments of Sanskrit, literature, art and culture, said that chess board and other necessary games have been purchased under the Hel Grant (sports fund) scheme for identified educational institutions.
He said that after the students get to know the game of chess, the education department will organize chess competitions at the district and national level, adding that the state wants the students to become chess grandmasters in their future careers.
Dr. Kalla started the ‘school chess’ game at the District 66 school sports competition held at Ramesh English High School in Bikaner and himself played the game with a student yesterday.
