KUCHING (Nov 26): Sarawak’s Heineken Laluan has done the country proud after being named runner-up in the business innovation category of the 2022 Shell LiveWIRE Global Top Ten Innovators Awards, which honors entrepreneurs who excel in innovation.

Heineken is the founder and CEO of Syarikat Timogah, an e-commerce platform that enables small and rural farmers to sell and distribute their products through online marketing.

Heineken’s prize includes $10,000 in cash and global business mentoring and coaching to further grow and develop the business.

“I am delighted to have won second place in the business innovation category as it has further strengthened my belief in the benefits of my innovative business to the farming community.

“With this success, I am determined to continue to empower local communities to create agribusinesses by exploring the untapped market potential of local natural products in Borneo,” he said.

Heineken, who hails from Kuching, thanked Shell for the excellent entrepreneurship program that pushed his business forward.

This year, 195 entrepreneurs from 17 participating countries took part in this competition, and the final was held in Mexico City.

Dato Ivan, Chairman of Shell Malaysia and Senior Vice President of Upstream Malaysia, said it is very inspiring to see passionate entrepreneurs from the country recognized globally for taking up innovative businesses that not only develop and empower themselves but also the communities they live in.

Founded in 2017, Timogah, which means “famous” in the local Bidayuh dialect, is an e-commerce platform promoting unique natural fresh produce and food products from Borneo.

Timogah helps local businesses and farming communities reach more customers through its digital platform and tools.

Today, Timogah has vendors from smallholder farmers and rural communities serving more than 3,000 households in Kuching.

Apart from Heineken, Sabahan entrepreneur Irene Mositol, founder of DumoWongi, a company that helps women earn a living by teaching them sustainable agriculture and helps them stockpile their produce for more sales, won in the Social Impact category.

He won $20,000 and a year of global business mentoring and coaching.

In addition, Azuar Zainuddin, CEO of Satu Creative, was awarded second place in the “Executive Partner” category. Satu Creative is a delivery partner working with Shell in launching the Shell LiveWIRE program in Malaysia.

Top Ten Innovators is a global competition open to Shell LiveWIRE graduates.

Introduced in Malaysia in 2015, the program is held annually in Sabah and Sarawak and this year was brought to Peninsular Malaysia for the first time.

In Sarawak, Shell has partnered with Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) for Sarawak Shell LiveWIRE since 2017 to benefit Sarawak entrepreneurs.
