Sens. Cruz, Cantwell Co-Author Consumer Protection Bill on Recording Smart Devices | So Good News

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, US Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), member of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee and Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Chair of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, launched Notifying Consumers of the Smart Devices Act.

The bill would require the FTC to develop clear guidelines for products that contain audio or video recording equipment, such as refrigerators, washing machines, dryers and dishwashers that are not visible. Most users don’t realize how many home appliances and devices include cameras and/or microphones that can record and include Wi-Fi’s ability to transmit data without your knowledge.
