Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Madhya Pradesh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Bhopal, has set aside the order of the District Consumer Forum, which asked the postal department to pay Rs 3 lakh in a dengue death case.

According to this policy, Om Prakash Gupta received a Life Insurance Policy on May 4, 2012. He was appointed as the principal of a middle school in Bagaspur in Narsinghpur district.

He died of dengue in Nagpur while undergoing treatment on September 21, 2012. The wife and son filed a complaint with the postal department, which dismissed the case on April 11, 2014, for giving false information and violating Section 39 of the Post Office Insurance Rules. , 2011, for banning policies related to medical leave.

The family moved the Narsinghpur District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, which ordered the postal department to pay Rs 3 lakh to the Gupta family with 6% interest from the date of filing the complaint. The postal department appealed to the Madhya Pradesh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Bhopal.

Advocate Rajiv Jain, appearing for the postal department, submitted that the petitioner was granted leave from June 20, 2011 to June 25, 2011.

The certificate shows that they have not been out of work in the health sector for the past three years. “So, what he said about getting insurance from the postal department, is false,” added Jain.

Rajiv Acharya, lawyer for the Gupta family, said, “The insurance form is filled by the agent and not the borrower so they are not aware of the insurance policy.”
