Steve Rosenthal, who recently made his second $1 million gift to the Arc of the Northeast, got a high five from JJ Millard of Peabody, Massachusetts when he visited the Greater Beverly YMCA to see the organization’s Water Wise program in action. It was Rosenthal’s second million-dollar gift to the organization since 2017, the organization’s largest single gift at the time. He hopes the new gift will encourage others to support the Northeast Arc. Rosenthal’s inaugural gift of $1 million to Northeast Arc in 2017 established the Transforming Lives Fund, which provides a vehicle for Northeast Arc to expand services in creative and innovative ways that traditional funding would not allow. It also helped the organization gain additional visibility, supporters and funds.
“When Steve made his first $1 million donation, it was a game-changer for us,” said Jo Ann Simons, president and CEO of Northeast Arc. “Since then, Steve has been actively involved with Northeast Arc and has encouraged us to look beyond what we are currently doing and find new and exciting opportunities. This second $1 million gift reinforces his belief in what we are doing to make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities and with their families every day.”
The Northeast Arc plans to leverage Rosenthal’s generous philanthropy in three key areas:
-
Focus on workforce investment through the Pathways to New Opportunities program
-
Keep doing bold ideas like ArcTank
-
Replicate successful programs and services, such as Life Connection Center, in a wider geographic area and expand the use of technology for the people the agency serves.
“I don’t have a personal connection to disability, but I strongly believe that a community that supports people with disabilities is one where everyone can thrive. I have been incredibly impressed with the work that Jo Ann and her team have done. With my first donation and I am confident that Northeast Arc will continue to innovate with these additional funds.” , said Rosenthal. “I’m calling on others who want to make a real impact on the real people who need to support the work of the Northeast Arc. I know they’ll have the same impact and want to be a part of the bold initiatives that the Northeast Arc is implementing.”
“Along with his professional accomplishments, Steve also has a heart of gold, his integrity, commitment and unwavering desire to see Northeast Arc grow and improve. On behalf of our team at Northeast Arc, I sincerely thank Steve for his transformational generosity,” Northeast Arc said. chairman of the board and RSM partner Michael Forrest.
A resident of Marblehead, Rosenthal earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and a law degree from Boston University. He practiced corporate law for 25 years and served as Co-Managing Director at Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo. Prior to founding West Shore, he served as President and CEO of Northland Investment Corporation. He has served as a volunteer for many years, including as a trustee of the Loomis Chaffee School and the Ruderman Family Foundation, and on the national board of directors of AIPAC and the administration of the Massachusetts Convention Center.
