Ajay Kumar pointed out that organizing such science fairs at the school level would help in increasing students’ interest in science, technology and research. He told the students to take inspiration from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who was born in a very poor family, studied hard, grew up to be a rocket, later became the President of India and set high goals from his student days.

About 650 students presented exhibits on the topics of information and communication technologies, environmental protection materials, health care, hygiene, transport inventions, permanent changes in the environment, historical development with modern inventions, and mathematics.

Later, Ajay Kumar inaugurated the Scanning Fetal Abnormalities (TIFA) facility at the District General Hospital, Khammam. The facility, set up at a cost of Rs 1 crore, will help detect fetal abnormalities in the early weeks of pregnancy and take corrective measures, he said.

The new facility can scan 20,000 pregnant women a month and people should take advantage of this opportunity. TIFA scans, which cost Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 in private hospitals, will be available free of cost in government hospitals, he said.
