The first round of the two-day Hyatt Plaza Chess Championship has come to an end. On the first day of the Under-14 competition, Rayan Irfan took first place ahead of Indian youngster Albin Sagan, who finished second, while compatriot Abel Sajjan finished third.
Mohamed Salah al-Malik was named Qatar’s best player (under-12), while Mohamed Saleh al-Qahtani won the under-10 award. Khaled Al-Jamaat won the award for Qatar’s Under-8 Player of the Year.
In the girls competition, India’s Shivabria Jarish won the top prize, while Moza Al-Khulayf won the best Qatari under-12 player award. Haya al-Hussein was named Qatar’s best player (under-10), while Asma al-Hammadi was awarded the best Qatari girl under-8.
On the second day, which was attended by all ages, Egyptian player Mahmoud Badr won the top prize after a fierce and intense competition that lasted until the final round.
Argentina’s Cristian finished second, while the player position was occupied by Youssef Mohamed al-Mutawa, who was also named Qatar’s best player.
Khalud Al-Khelaifi won the Qatar Player of the Year award.
The winners were crowned at the closing ceremony, which was chaired by Qatar Chess Federation (QCF) President Mohamed Al Mudahka, Federation Secretary General Youssef Mohamed Al Mutawa and Hyatt Plaza Head of Marketing Mohamed Al Khawamdeh. . QCF Secretary General Al-Mutawa said: “We are happy to collaborate with Hayat Plaza and organize the first edition. We hope to hold it again in the future.”
