The Department of Consumer Affairs will organize ‘Consumer Empowerment Week’ on March 14-20, in conjunction with World Consumer Rights Day. The celebrations coincide with World Consumer Rights Day, which takes place on March 15.

The department will organize several events in different places in the country.

On the inaugural day, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Indian Institute of Legal Metrology (IILM) Ranchi, National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India Ltd (NCCF), National Test House (NTH) and Regional Reference Standards Laboratories (RRSLs) will conduct programmes. reaching rural people in 75 villages.

These programs will inform people about the National Consumer Helpline (NCH), the contents of the Consumer Protection Act 2019, BIS standards, details of pre-registered products, use of ISI registered cookers and helmets, purchase of branded gold jewelery and jewellery. using the right weights and measures.

On March 15, the department will celebrate International Consumer Rights Day.

A major event is being organized in the country’s capital and this year’s theme is “Fair Digital Finance”.

The event will be inaugurated by Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Justice RK Agarwal, President of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC), Nandan Nilekani, Non-Executive Chairman of Infosys.

The department is also launching an exhibition of 75 years of scientific tourism in association with BIS, RRSL and The National Test House (NTH).

The e-commerce conference will be organized on March 16-17, he said.
