Legacy of Shri Bishan Singh Ji
The first V4 CHESS tournament was named after Kech. Shri Bishan Singh ji was an eminent chess player, coach, national arbitrator, APCA office bearer and organizer. To promote any sport one needs passion and passion for the game of chess came naturally to Bishan Singh. Although he was the district champion, Bishan Singh ji knew that he had to rise to a level where chess could be considered as a career for young and emerging talent. His work first started in Karimnagar by laying the foundation of Karimnagar District Chess Association and eventually spread to other districts of the state. He was the office bearer of the AP State Chess Association in the early 90s. He worked tirelessly to promote chess in the country. His example can be seen in all four of his sons whom he inspired to play chess and all of them were successful players at the national level and won multiple medals in national championships. His sons are proud to carry on his legacy by hosting his memorial tournament with family and friends.
