Wabtec acquires Super Metal to expand its railway maintenance portfolio | So Good News

PITTSBURGH, November 17, 2022 – Wabtec Corporation (NYSE: WAB), a leading global freight and transit rail supplier, today announced a definitive agreement to acquire Super Metal, a provider of automated vehicle and equipment solutions that support rail operations. Super Metal is one of the leading Brazilian companies in the maintenance of the road segment of the railway industry. This acquisition complements our Nordco acquisition and accelerates our strategy to expand into international markets. The financial terms of the acquisition were not made public.

“Super Metal’s rail maintenance solutions and equipment have synergy with Wabtec’s service portfolio,” said Danilo Miyasato, President and Regional General Manager of Wabtec in Latin America. “The combination of these solutions will enhance our maintenance portfolio and offer our customers increased safety, productivity and reduced operating costs.”

Super Metal has almost 30 years of experience in supplying various automated vehicles and maintenance equipment which includes rail and tie maintenance vehicles as well as railcars. The company also specializes in machining, services, development and project implementation for the daily operation of railways throughout Brazil.

With Super Metal located in the city of Governador Valadares in Minas Gerais, Brazil, this acquisition gives Wabtec a robust railway maintenance portfolio in South America. It also complements Wabtec’s existing freight rail manufacturing presence in Contagem, Brazil.
